Religious Terminology

Pagan religions are not well known by those who have not been exposed to them, and there are many types of pagans in the world. These are some terms used in my books, and by no means am I able to include all types of religions that are worshipped by pagans throughout the world.

PAGAN—A general word that refers to worshipping gods or goddesses other than those belonging to the monotheistic religions.

HEATHEN—The general word refers to worshipers of the Germanic and Norse pantheons. There are several white supremist groups who use Heathanism to express their hate. This is by no means all Heathans.

ASATRU—A person who practices Asatru is called an Asatruar and is sometimes referred to as a Heathen. Asatru is also called Wodanism, Wotanism, or Germanic paganism.

VANATRU—Heathens focused on the pantheon of gods called the Vanir.

RÖKKATRU—Heathens that worship the Rokkr along with the other Norse gods.

LOKEAN—A Heathen who considers their patron to be Loki.
